Terms of Service

Last updated: April 25, 2026

These terms govern your use of L'chaim ("the app"), a mobile application published by Zachary Rivkin ("we", "us"). By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. By using the app, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have your parent or guardian's permission.

2. The app and what it does

L'chaim is a daily Jewish learning app. It serves the weekly Torah portion or daily Daf Yomi, asks you a question about it, shows you how other readers answered, and shares a generationally-tuned punchline. We provide the app on an "as is" basis. We make no warranty that the readings, translations, jokes, or interpretations are theologically authoritative — they are educational and for entertainment.

3. Your account

You provide a name, email, and birth year (or sign in with Apple). You are responsible for keeping your sign-in information secure. You may delete your account from Settings at any time.

4. L'chaim Plus subscription

Some features may require a paid subscription ("Plus"). Subscriptions are processed by Apple under your Apple ID:

If you cancel mid-period, your subscription remains active until the end of the current paid period. We do not pro-rate refunds.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

6. Intellectual property

The app, its design, the curated readings, the questions, the jokes, and the source code are owned by us or our licensors. You receive a non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes. Hebrew Bible text is in the public domain. English translations and commentary are used under fair-use or appropriate licenses; if you believe we have used your work in error, please email us.

7. User-submitted content

Your poll answers are anonymous and aggregated. By submitting an answer, you grant us a license to count it, display the aggregate result to other users, and store it as described in our privacy policy.

8. Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or theologically authoritative. Shabbat mode times are computed locally using publicly-available astronomical data and standard halakhic conventions; you should rely on your local rabbi or community for authoritative observance times. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or twenty US dollars (whichever is greater).

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this limitation may not apply to you in full.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability) will survive.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, if appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Austin, Texas, and you consent to that jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your jurisdiction.
